Contractor Competition

Is your contractor for the birds?

To celebrate Teagasc Hedgerow Week 2019, we are running a competition to identify best practice in hedgerow cutting. Nominate yourself or your contractor, and be in with a chance to win €1,000, split evenly between contractor and farmer! To enter complete the form below.

Closing date: –  15th December 2019 at midnight

The aim of competition is to reward contractors for improved hedgerow management practices on routinely cut hedgerows this season, away from the “flat top, short back and sides”.

Criteria for evaluation

  • Minimum height of hedge 1.5m above ground level or top of bank
  • Occasional new thorn in each hedgerow left to grow up to become an individual thorn tree.
  • Evidence of change of practice away from the “flat top, short back and sides” for this season’s routinely cut hedgerows across the farm.

Submit a representative photo showing how this year’s hedge trimming on the nominated farm has been cut in line with Teagasc hedgerow management guidance for routinely trimmed hedgerows.

Selected finalists will be assessed on management practices on this season’s routinely cut hedgerows across the farm.
