The recently published Tillage Sector Development Plan will be used as a roadmap for growing the tillage sector and delivery of its goals will be monitored at the Food Harvest 2020 High Level Implementation Committee. The Tillage Sector Development Plan was compiled by the Teagasc Tillage Crop Stakeholder Consultative Group and launched in 2012. The plan identifies considerable potential for expansion in cereals, oilseed rape, energy crops and some potential in potatoes. If all the potential increases in the various crops were achieved, the area under crops could increase by 221,000 hectares, and the production of tillage crops could increase by 1.14 million tonnes.
