Six farm hazardous waste collection days are scheduled to take place over the coming weeks, providing farmers with an opportunity to dispose of various wastes, thus ensuring compliance with legislation and reducing the possibility for biosecurity, environmental or human health risks.
Farmers can avail of this service to dispose of hazardous wastes such as pesticides, veterinary medicines, waste oil, paint and persistent organic pollutants. Full details of the products accepted and fees are available in table 2 below. Users of the service will receive documentation for their records as proof of disposal.
Announced jointly by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, and the Department of Climate, Energy and Environment, the hazardous waste collection dates will commence on November 12 in Co. Clare, with other events planned in Meath, Cork, Tipperary, Mayo and Kerry (details in table one below).

This initiative continues to progress hazardous waste management in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) National Hazardous Waste Management Plan (NHWMP) 2021-2027. It builds on the success of the 2024 trial collection days, which collected 95,000kg of hazardous waste from approximately 600 farms. The collection days are being supported through strengthened cooperation with stakeholders in the veterinary medicine and plant protection product sectors.
The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment will co-fund the fixed costs for each of the six collection days with expert input on product identification being provided by the Animal and Plant Health Association (APHA).

I encourage farmers across all farm enterprises to avail of this service and to dispose of any hazardous waste which may be on their farms.
Minister of State at the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment, Alan Dillon TD, added: “Finding a suitable outlet for disposing of various hazardous waste items can be difficult for many households, including farm households, so I am delighted to have this opportunity to work with my colleague Minister Heydon to facilitate the collection of such waste materials at these six locations this year through provision of funding from the Circular Economy Fund.”
