The report models nitrogen leaching to 1 metre depth, farm nitrogen balance, and gaseous nitrogen emissions under a range of tillage-based scenarios. The analysis focuses on the additional positive impacts of potential measures proposed for the 6th Nitrates Action Programme (NAP), with emphasis on increasing the arable area sown to cover crops. The outputs are intended to inform policy development on nitrates load reduction and to support the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in calculating load reductions attributable to the 5th and 6th NAP at individual river catchment level.
