Niall Kilrane
Niall holds a key position at the Irish Cattle Breeding Federation (ICBF), where his work is primarily focussed on the Gene Ireland Breeding Programme. This cutting-edge initiative is aimed at improving the genetic merit of the national herd in Ireland. His work in this area focuses on the design, operation and farmer engagement side of the breeding programme. Outcomes of this work contribute to optimising animal welfare, enhancing feed efficiency, reducing environmental impacts, ensuring the highest standards of environmental and financial sustainability are available to all actors along the supply chain.
In his role at ICBF, Niall collaborates closely with Teagasc, AI companies, bull breeders, commercial farmers and beef processors on various projects that contribute to the efficiency and profitability of dairy calf-to-beef systems.
At the Dairy Calf-to-Beef International Conference, Niall will share his learnings, offering valuable perspectives on the role of an integrated breeding programme. His contributions connect directly with both academic circles and practical farming, making him an important link in the ongoing evolution of sustainable agriculture.
