ESB Science Blast

We are proud to support ESB Science Blast in 2025.

Teagasc are playing our role in supporting the next generation to question the world around them.

ESB Science Blast, delivered by the RDS, is a free non-competitive STEM education programme for primary school classes that invites children from across the island of Ireland to investigate the science behind a simple question that interests and excites them, such as:

  • Does your height affect your ability to hold your breath?
Conas a dhéanann uirlis ceoil fuaim?
  • What creates the greatest chemical reaction when doing the baking soda volcano?
Céard a tharlaíonn dár gcuid éadaí nuair atáimid críochnaithe leo?
  • How does the shape of a parachute affect its descent rate?
An mbíonn blas bia difriúil le haghaidh daoine difriúla?

Many classes are asking questions that we as adults no longer ask and we often struggle to provide answers to these simple questions. ESB Science Blast provides children with an opportunity to work through their questions by predicting, observing, measuring, and gathering evidence and then presenting their theories and work to a real-life scientist or engineer for feedback.
ESB Science Blast has animated videos, lesson plans, episodes of ESB Science Blast TV and past projects available on www.esbscienceblast.com in both English and Irish, to help inspire students with the wonders of STEM.
