Gavin Hodgson
Gavin has over twenty years’ experience in the agriculture industry, which includes almost 15 years in farming and 8 years in processing and retail. Gavin joined Sainsbury’s in 2014, and after two successful years of heading up Pork, moved into the role of Head of Livestock. In this role he was responsible for defining and leading his team of Agriculture Managers to deliver the Sainsbury’s Agriculture and Sourcing strategy, unlocking value, delivering Sainsbury’s values, driving quality & innovation, sustaining competitive advantage and protecting and enhancing the Sainsbury’s Brand.
After 6 years of working in the Agriculture team, Gavin moved into a more commercial role and became the Buying Manager in the Meat, Fish & Poultry category where he was responsible for a team of 5 buyers and buying areas.
In 2022, Gavin made the move back to Agriculture when he was appointed the role of Director of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Horticulture. He now oversees a team of 17, to include Head of Livestock, Agriculture Managers and Data and Insight Analysts, to deliver the Sainsbury’s strategy, focussing on supply chain resilience and sustainability, security of supply and innovation.
Gavin is passionate about efficient, profitable, and sustainable supply chains and takes a science-based approach, which is underpinned by utilising key insights from data.
