3rd European Network of LIFE Carbon Farming
Action C5: Setting up an EU low carbon farming network (LIFE20/CCM/FR/001663)
Ireland, 23rd to 25th June 2025
This networking event is an excellent opportunity to network with the various actors in carbon farming initiatives – operators, auditors, industry bodies, brokers and funders.

Limiting climate change by keeping the rise in world temperature to less than 2°C above pre-industrial levels requires rapid and large reductions (80%-90%) in Irish and global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In parallel, substantial increases in carbon capture and storage (sequestration) are needed to offset hard to reduce GHG emissions from sectors like agriculture.
To boost climate change mitigation in the sector, Ireland and the EU are building frameworks to enable the creation and rollout of carbon farming initiatives. LIFE Carbon Farming is one example of such an initiative. This unique initiative is aiming to establish monitoring and funding mechanisms to reward livestock farmers for mitigating GHG emissions and sequestering carbon.
LIFE Carbon Farming is a large collaboration consisting of over 40 organisations, with 700 livestock farmers participating in Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Germany and Belgium. The livestock farmers involved in the initiative have just reached the midway point of implementing carbon and sustainability plans on farm. The network will present their sustainability plans, outline progress made in reducing carbon footprint and improving environmental performance, and discuss way of funding carbon farming activities.
Policy experts will put livestock farmers’ mitigation efforts into context and provide updates on European and national certification frameworks for carbon farming. The event will also feature presentations on how to upscale carbon farming initiatives through national sustainability programmes and discuss the latest research on climate mitigation and adaptation technologies for agriculture.
