Food Safety & Standards Auditing

Companies need to verify effectiveness of their food safety management’s system through auditing. In order to meet internal, customer and legal requirements, companies are increasingly seeking independent recognition of their systems to British Retail Consortium, ISO and Bord Bia standards. This course will provide participants with the knowledge, skill and competence to interpret food safety and quality standards and to develop an in-company auditing procedure to assure system compliance to these standards.

Who should attend?

This course is aimed at technical, quality managers, regulatory inspectors and consultants working with the food sector.

Programme Content:

This two day programme covers the following topics:

  • Customer, internal and regulatory requirements for food standards auditing:
  • General interpretation of requirements of international and national food safety and quality management standards e.g. BRC, ISO, Bord Bia.
  • Developing audit procedures and checklists
  • Conducting an audit
  • Identification and evaluation of non-conformances
  • Auditing as a continuous improvement tool

Course Tutors

The training course will be delivered by trainers from Teagasc Food Research Centre, Ashtown. All tutors have relevant qualifications and extensive experience in auditing food safety and quality management standards.

Assessment / Certification

Assessment is by means of a written examination and submission of a work related project on system auditing. On successful completion of the assessment a QQI certificate will be awarded.
