It’s that time of year again when all roads will lead to the National Ploughing Championships. Why not visit the Teagasc stand, get all your forestry queries answered and experience our Virtual Reality forest? Tom Houlihan of the Teagasc Forestry Development Department tells us more.
Our forestry staff will be on hand to warmly welcome you to the Teagasc stand during this year’s National Ploughing Championships. We invite you to engage with our forestry advisors, who will be available to address all your forestry queries, be it on diverse forestry creation opportunities, ongoing forest management and available support schemes. It is also a great opportunity to find out about our exciting upcoming advisory and training events.
Forest Creation Options
With the new tree planting season imminent, it is well worth investigating the attractive DAFM Forestry Programme which includes strong financial incentives for the variety of forest option available (called Forest Types), each with their own silvicultural, environmental and practical objectives. There are planting options suitable for all farms, regardless of enterprise or scale. These include native woodland, agroforestry (combining farming and trees in the same fields) and the more commercially-focused conifer and broadleaf options. There are also attractive options for planting smaller areas under the new Native Tree Area (NTA) Scheme. This is a great opportunity to avail of comprehensive, objective and up-to-date information.
