Wealth of Knowledge and Insights at Teagasc Pig Farmers’ Conference

The 2025 Teagasc Pig Farmers’ Conference kicks off today, Tuesday, 7 October, at the Horse and Jockey Hotel, County Tipperary, and continues Wednesday, 8 October at Farnham Estate, County Cavan, starting at 1:30 PM in Horse & Jockey and 3:30 PM in Farnham Estate.

Our international guest speaker this year is Dr. Vivi Aarestrup Moustsen from SEGES Innovation in Denmark. SEGES is an independent research and development organisation and Denmark’s leading agricultural knowledge and innovation centre. Dr. Vivi Aarestrup Moustsen will look at future housing options for lactating sows and the space and floor requirements for grower pigs.

Speaking ahead of this year’s conference, Ciarán Carroll, Head of Knowledge Transfer in the Teagasc Pig Development Department, said; “This year’s conference offers a wealth of knowledge and insights aimed at enhancing practical expertise and tackling future challenges. Our focus is not just on dealing with current issues or developments, but also about looking forward and best preparing farms for the future. With this in mind, we are thrilled to have renowned international guest speaker Dr. Vivi Aarestrup Moustsen with us this year. We’re currently at a stage where we’re looking to the future of pig housing and Vivi’s research and experience is second to none in this area”.

Three Teagasc papers will focus on meeting the energy requirements of the modern lactating sow (Peadar Lawlor), how good biosecurity improves pig performance (Louise Clarke & Gerard McCutcheon) and how to gain an edge in grower pig performance (Emer McCrum & Michael McKeon).

The conference is an essential event in the pig farming calendar, providing an opportunity to share innovative ideas, research, and practical advice.

The 2025 Teagasc Pig Farmers’ Conference promises to be a valuable opportunity for knowledge-sharing and networking within the sector. We look forward to welcoming all attendees over the two days.
