Professional Certificate in Grassland Production

This course has been developed to meet the needs of working professionals and recent graduates operating in the field of grassland management.

Ireland is world renowned for its highly efficient and sustainable grassland production systems. Since its inception, Teagasc has invested heavily in research and knowledge transfer programmes  that support innovative grassland management systems.

These courses will be delivered using a combination of face to face and online teaching methods. On successful completion of this course participants will be registered with the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine as approved Pesticide Advisors (Grassland) and can provide advice on grassland pesticides. As places on the course are limited, early booking is advisable.

This Professional Certificate in Grassland Production has been developed to meet the needs of working professionals and recent graduates operating in the field of grassland management. The techniques and knowledge gained will allow participants to get exclusive access to Teagasc specialists, advisers and research staff who will provide the necessary knowledge and insights into Ireland’s grassland success story.

Key Facts

The first contact day will be via Zoom.

Each course begins with a Zoom meeting and includes 2 days lectures/practical sessions (face to face meetings at a later date in the selected College) and is supported by online content and mentoring by a senior advisor. Each participant must be mentored by a senior advisor through the course (Grassland Pesticide Mentor). The course requires participant study in the lead up to each practical day. Continuous assessment on-line will feature each week with exams on both workshop days

Course overview

This course will provide participants with a solid understanding of the fundamentals of grassland production and management. The programme also includes elements to help professionals communicate messages around grassland management. Supporting materials will include lecture notes, handbooks, worksheets and templates. The course will also include a number of farm walks and practical demonstration of grassland management techniques.
