About the course
Teagasc’s QQI Level 6 Course in Sustainable Farming in the Environment provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to support climate action within Irish agriculture.
The course explores the interaction between farming systems and the environment, covering greenhouse gas emissions, biodiversity, water quality, nutrient management and sustainable farm planning. Learning combines classroom sessions with practical field visits to demonstrate real-world applications.

Course delivery and schedule
The programme is delivered over six face-to-face training days at Teagasc locations. Each training day combines classroom-based learning with practical field and farm visits, giving participants the opportunity to apply theory in real-world settings.
Learning is assessed throughout the course through a combination of assignments and short examinations, ensuring participants can demonstrate their understanding and practical application of the course material.

Entry requirements
A suitable agricultural qualification (Degree, Diploma or equivalent)
or
A Level 6 Certificate in Agriculture (or equivalent) plus three years’ relevant experience.
Applicants who do not meet these criteria may be assessed individually.
Course fee
With 70% funding available to eligible participants, the reduced cost of the course is €350.
This course is brought to you in partnership with Laois and Offaly Education and Training Board.
Cancellation and refund policy
- 14 days or more before start date: Full refund of course fees.
- 7 – 13 days before start date: 50% refund of course fees.
- Less than 7 days before start date or after commencement: No refund.
- If Teagasc cancels a course: 100% refund of course fees. Teagasc reserves the right to cancel if minimum attendance numbers are not met.
