Research Impact Highlights

In any given year, the impact of Teagasc research is a combination of the continuing impact of past research and the new impact of recent research. The most recent publication highlights some of these new impacts achieved in 2024 below.

Research Impact Highlights 2024 (PDF)

Foreword

Advanced agriculture and food research is critical for ensuring sustainable farming practices and providing better food security. The development of new farming systems that can withstand the impact of climate change, while increasing animal and plant production, is a crucial aspect of advanced agriculture research. Equally important is research into sustainable farming practices that conserve soil, water, and other natural resources, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and increase farm profitability. In 2024, Teagasc launched ‘Better Farming for Water: 8-Actions for Change’. This national campaign aims to accelerate the adoption of actions on all farms to improve all water bodies, where agriculture is a significant pressure, to ‘good’ or ‘high’ ecological status using a multi-actor approach.

This publication contains 20 examples of our research impact from 2024, highlighting just some of the groundbreaking work from our four research programmes: Animal and Grassland Research and Innovation (AGRIP); Crops, Environment and Land Use (CELUP); Food (FOOD); and Rural Economy and Development (REDP).
