Watch: Selling my Timber, a farmer’s experience

Con Keigher tells us why he considered forestry, and shares some thoughts on how forestry can be made more attractive to farmers.
Con Keigher is a livestock farmer in Co. Roscommon, who diversified into forestry in 1996 when he planted 22ha of sitka spruce, norway spruce, oak and some ash.
In this video, Con describes why he considered forestry and how he informed himself. This enabled him to make informed decisions along the way. Con also talks about how he looked after his forest over the years, ensuring that the trees were performing well.
He has carried out a first thinning operation and provides some very useful tips. He is now considering a second thinning in his forest and he has some decisions to make.
