Teagasc locations closed due to Red Wind Warning

On account of the Red Wind Warning issued by Met Éireann and the arrival of Storm Éowyn, all Teagasc offices, colleges and research centres will be closed, today, January 24, 2025.
Although the weather warnings are forecast to expire at various times throughout the day, Teagasc has made the decision to close all locations for the duration of the day in the interest of safety. This move is consistent with public advice associated with the weather warning, and ensures no unnecessary travel occurs both during and following the lapsing of the weather warnings, the latter is a time when travel may remain hazardous as a result of storm debris and fallen power lines etc.
Director of Knowledge Transfer in Teagasc, Dr. Stan Lalor commented: “In order to ensure the safety of our staff and clients, Teagasc centres will remain closed today, January 24, 2025. Given the nature of Teagasc activities, only essential staff will be in attendance to tend to our research and college herds/flocks. Arrangements have been put in place in each location to ensure staff safety and the upmost standards of animal welfare are achieved.”
Head of Advisory Services at Teagasc, Thomas Curran added: “Farmers need to be aware that planned meetings or discussion groups at Teagasc locations will not take place today, January 24. The safety of our staff and clients is a priority and our team of advisory and administration staff will endeavour to rearrange any cancelled appointments or events. In line with advice from the National Emergency Co-ordination Group, Teagasc staff, where possible, have been advised to work from home and will be available to have any urgent queries you may have. Extra care is needed on farms during this challenging period of weather and farmers must take every precaution to ensure their own safety.”
Head of Teagasc Education, Anne-Marie Butler commented further: “For the safety of our staff and students, Teagasc Colleges will also be closed today, January 24. Students have been advised to remain indoors for the duration of the weather warning and to avoid any unnecessary travel.”
