Visit Teagasc Forestry at the National Ploughing Championships
It’s that time of year again when all roads will lead to the National Ploughing Championships, taking place this year at Screggan, Tullamore, Co. Offaly.
Why not visit the Teagasc stand, get all your forestry queries answered and select your favourites from our forest types display? Tom Houlihan of the Teagasc Forestry Development Department tells us more.
Our forestry staff will be on hand to warmly welcome you to the Teagasc stand during the 2025 National Ploughing Championships. Over the three days of the Ploughing, we invite you to engage with our forestry advisors, who will be available to address all your forestry queries, be it on diverse forestry creation opportunities, available support schemes, ongoing forest management or navigating post storm challenges. It is also a great opportunity to find out about our exciting upcoming advisory and training events.
To mark the climax of the Teagasc / Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine’s highly popular Forest Photo Competition, Minister of State with responsibility for forestry, Michael Healy-Rae, TD, will attend the Teagasc stand on Tuesday afternoon to present the overall prizes to worthy competition winners in both the Adult and Junior categories.
Forest Creation Options
With the new tree planting season again imminent, it is well worth investigating the attractive Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine’s Forestry Programme which includes strong financial incentives for the variety of forest option available (called Forest Types), each with their own silvicultural, environmental and practical objectives. There are planting options suitable for all farms, regardless of enterprise or scale. These include native woodland, agroforestry (combining farming and trees in the same fields) and the more commercially-focused conifer and broadleaf options. There are also attractive options for planting smaller areas under the new Native Tree Area (NTA) Scheme. This is a great opportunity to avail of comprehensive, objective and up-to-date information.
Try our forestry challenges
Teagasc staff will be present at the Teagasc marquee to discuss all things forestry. We will have plenty of information available to meet your needs. This year we again have engaging challenges – select and answer our teaser on the Native Tree Area Scheme and register your preferred forest type(s) from the range that will be presented at our outdoor display.
The Teagasc Stand is the place to be during the National Ploughing Championships for forestry and all things farming. We are centrally located at Block 4, Row 13, Stand No. 267. We very much look forward to meeting you over the three days!
