LESS slurry declarations and ACRES
Participants in the Agri-Climate Rural Environment Scheme (ACRES) who have selected the Low Emission Slurry Spreading (LESS) action are reminded that the deadline for declaring such applications is just around the corner.
In a circular sent to ACRES advisors, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine communicated that the LESS return must be completed on its online portal by October 31, 2025. Where farmers fail to do so, delays to the 2025 ACRES advance payment will occur and it may result in the rejection of the LESS action from the participant’s ACRES contract.
This declaration may be completed online by the ACRES advisor acting on behalf of the ACRES participant or by the participant themselves.
Before making the declaration, there are some important things to note. To qualify, holdings must have a grassland stocking rate of less than 100 kg of nitrogen per hectare from grazing livestock manure before any manure is exported. All slurry applied on the farm must be spread each year of the contract using one or more of the following methods: Band spreading, Injection systems or Trailing shoe, and pig slurry is not eligible for payment under this action.
