Grass10 Nutrient Management Week 2026
Teagasc Grass10 Nutrient Management Week takes place from 19th – 23rd January, with a full programme focused on nutrient management on farms in spring and throughout the year ahead.
Shared via podcast, video and social media formats, farmers, Teagasc researchers and specialists, along with industry professionals, will deliver essential messaging on effective nutrient use.
Nutrient Management Week is part of the continued focus of the Teagasc Grass10 Campaign, along with Farming for Water, to improve nutrient use management and efficiency at farm level. AIB, Grassland Agro, Irish Farmers Journal, FBD and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine support the Grass10 Campaign.
Ahead of the week of activities, Grass10 Advisor, Nikki Kennedy remarked: “By really focusing on what our farms require and getting the most out of available slurry and fertilisers, we’re able to support economic, environmental and production sustainability. As an industry, we must remain aware of our nutrient management actions and the impact they can have on water quality.”
Topics to be covered during the week include: how to maximise slurry nitrogen in spring with farmer Michael Carroll; use of technologies such as GPS and early fertiliser to maximise grass growth with farmer Mike Ahern; fertiliser timing, rates and optimising soil fertility with Grass10 Manager John Maher; nutrient management to improve water quality with farmer Philip Murphy; getting your fertiliser spreader ready for 2026 with John Corbett of Grassland Agro.
There will be a Q&A with Grassland Agro’s Seán McMahon, where everyone is encouraged to ask questions on the Teagasc Grass10 Instagram account throughout the week for Seán to answer.
In a podcast that will be shared on Teagasc’s Dairy Edge platform, Senior Research Officer at Teagasc, Dr Pat Tuohy will join Philip Murphy, Farming for Water Coordinator for the Blackwater Catchment, to discuss slurry and soiled water requirements for livestock in Ireland and how these valuable nutrients can be used effectively for pasture production.
Nutrient Management Week starts on Monday, January 19th and ends on Friday, January 23rd. Teagasc encourages all farmers to follow @teagascgrass10 on Instagram and ‘X’, @PastureBase on ‘X’ and Grass10 TV on YouTube.
