Thinking about planting trees or managing an existing forest?
Commencing next week, the Teagasc Forestry Development Department is running 33 One to One Forestry Clinics across every county from the 9th to the 26th of February 2026. Frances McHugh tells us why these clinics will be of interest to those thinking about planting trees or already managing an existing forest.
These free, confidential appointments give landowners independent, practical advice on how forestry can contribute to farm income, sustainability, tax planning and labour efficiency.

Held in Teagasc offices nationwide, each clinic offers a private consultation with an experienced Teagasc Forestry Advisor who’ll offer tailored guidance suited to your land and objectives – whether that be exploring afforestation for the first time or seeking solutions for an established forest.
The options available under the Forestry Programme 2023–2027 – including timber-focused planting, native woodland, continuous cover systems and agroforestry that combines trees with livestock – will be explained. There are also other grant supported options to plant small areas of native woodland through the native tree area scheme. Whatever the forest type or scale, every tree planting project can deliver climate, water quality, biodiversity and landscape benefits.
The clinics also cover practical supports on how forestry interacts with other farm schemes (BISS, ACRES, organics), application process, and how to prepare so the job is done right first time. Existing forest owners are welcome to discuss ongoing management, thinning, forest protection and available supports for established forests.
The One‑to‑One Clinics provide free up‑to‑date, independent information and decision support on tree planting, afforestation and forest management.
