Join our upcoming close-to-nature forest management workshops

Jonathan Spazzi, Forestry Development Officer, and Frances McHugh, Forestry Communications and Digital Media Specialist, tell us about a series of upcoming forest management workshops, integrating biodiversity and production.

Our popular outdoor forest workshops are back this Spring with two interesting workshops on offer to forest owners, which are also relevant to forestry professionals and the general public.

These workshops will take place in our in-forest marteloscope training facility at the Teagasc Oak Park Research Centre, Carlow.

During these two practical outdoor workshops, attendees will learn how forest management can help promote biodiversity in a forest (workshop 1) and following from that, you can explore how appropriate management can help integrate timber production with biodiversity enhancement (workshop 2).

Workshop 1: Biodiversity and Resilience

In this practical outdoor workshop, you will explore forest biodiversity, learn its importance for forest resilience, health and vitality. You will learn how to carry out simple surveys on biodiversity potential and how forest management can help enhance biodiversity to support a wide range of ecosystem services with local benefits and support to society wellbeing.

Workshop 2: Integrated forest management

This second outdoor workshop will facilitate your learning of how forest management can help integrate timber production with biodiversity enhancement and the other many important services that forests provide to owners and society. Attendees will also work on how to identify the potential of a multi-function forest and how to adjust management to achieve a more sustainable forest into the future.

Booking details

Each workshop can be booked separately and runs as a stand-alone training event. However, where taken together, they would form a natural progression and would offer a rounded 2-day course for multipurpose forest use accessible to owners.

Places are limited. Each workshop runs on two days to accommodate more participants.

Workshop 1: Biodiversity and Resilience

Workshop 2: Integrated forest management

Time: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
