Best practice in milking courses available

Specialised training courses aimed at improving milking standards and dairy herd management will take place in the coming weeks in Cavan and Tipperary.

The Best Practice in Milking Course, delivered in conjunction with FRS Training, Animal Health Ireland and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, is designed to equip participants with the skills required to effectively manage the milking process on commercial Irish dairy farms.

The QQI Level 6 programme focuses on key areas including milking techniques, milk quality, food safety, dairy herd health and animal welfare. Participants will gain the knowledge and competence needed to carry out milking operations independently while maintaining high standards.

The first course will take place at Teagasc Ballyhaise College, Ballyhaise, Co. Cavan (H12 E392) on Tuesday, 7 April and Wednesday, 8 April, starting at 9:30am each day. A written examination for this session will be held on Wednesday, 22 April.

A second course will run at FRS Training in Roscrea, Co. Tipperary on Wednesday, 8 April and Thursday, 9 April, also beginning at 9:30am. Participants in this session will complete their written examination on Thursday, 23 April.

Applicants must have at least 100 hours of milking experience and must also have access to a milking parlour for the practical assessment required as part of the programme.
