On a recent webinar which took place on Thursday, 17th June 2021, Dónall Flanagan, Teagasc Nursery Stock Advisor was joined by Dr Brian Jackson, North Carolina State University to discuss the different sources of wood fibre and impacts on growth of bedding, perennials and woody plants.
Dr Brian Jackson, North Carolina State University, has been researching wood fibre use in growing media for over a decade. Dr Jackson is very familiar with the Irish media sector and has visited Ireland a number of times in the last decade.
Dr Jackson discussed the different sources of wood fibre and impacts on growth of bedding, perennials and woody plants. As the sector moves towards growing media with lower peat and higher wood fibre this is a great opportunity to see how the US market has adapted to the new materials without loss of plant quality.
