Event description: Get ready for a fun and exciting School Science Quiz for 5th and 6th class students! Test your knowledge on all things related to the fascinating topics we research at Teagasc, from farming and food production to animals and the environment. Compete with other local schools, answer questions about how plants grow, where our food comes from, and how science helps farmers look after animals and the land. It’s a great chance to learn more about the world around us, show off your science skills, and maybe even win some cool prizes!

Event description: Dive into the fascinating world of fermentation in collaboration with BiaInnovator with this engaging and educational workshop! Learn what fermentation is and why it’s important for making tasty and healthy foods like yoghurt, sauerkraut, and kombucha with Dr. John Leech, Teagasc Food Scientist. Discover the history behind fermented foods from different cultures and explore the science of how tiny microbes, like bacteria and yeast, help turn ingredients into delicious treats like bread, yoghurt, beer and wine. Meet a special guest from ALLAboutKombucha who will share what it’s like to make kombucha on a large scale and explain how they get it ready for stores. Then, watch a live demonstration of how to start your own fermented foods at home, with helpful tips and answers to your questions. It’s the perfect way to discover the science and secrets behind some of your favourite foods!
