Animal Bioscience Research

The Animal and Bioscience Department research encompasses nutrition, fertility, breeding, health and welfare, focussing on producing profitable animals and the corresponding management strategies to deliver the productivity, sustainability and product quality targets set out in the Food Harvest 2020 vision. Close links with the national animal breeding programmes are used to exploit results from genetic and genomic research. Additional research is directed to the development of management blueprints and novel therapies. This objective is achieved through the implementation of research projects conducted in three sub-programme areas:
