Priority Catchments
The Better Farming for Water campaign will initially focus on southeastern half of the country. This is because according to an assessment by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), approximately 40% of the land is at high N loss risk (6887 km2), and high N concentrations in waters are a concern. In this region, 6 Catchment Coordinators have been appointed to manage the campaign in 8 Priority Catchments, in collaboration with Catchment Implementation Groups composed by farmers and industry representatives, local authorities, regulatory and advisory bodies and other stakeholders. A bespoke Catchment Management Plan for each Priority Catchment will be launched and published during 2026.
