Internal Auditing for Competent Authorities
Competent Authorities must comply with relevant legislation ensuring official controls are planned on a risk basis, are implemented impartially, are of sufficient quality and are consistently implemented at all levels in order to meet the objectives of the legislation. Competent Authorities must verify the effectiveness of official controls system through a programme of internal audits (or may have external audits carried) under article 4 regulation (EC) no. 882/2004 and article 6 (EU) 2017/625. This course will provide participants with the knowledge, skill and competence to understand the responsibilities of competent authorities in this area, develop an in-company auditing procedure, and perform internal audits to comply with requirements.
Who should attend?
This course is aimed at Competent Authority staff who will be involved in the internal audit process.

This two day programme covers the following topics:
- Legislative requirements governing internal auditing in Competent Authorities
- Guideline National Audit Systems Network Documents
- Developing audit procedures and checklists
- Conducting an internal audit
- Identification, evaluation and categorisation of non-conformances
- Auditing as a continuous improvement tool
Course Tutors
The training course is delivered by trainers from Teagasc, Food Research Centre, Ashtown. The tutors have experience of internal auditing in Competent Authorities and delivered an extensive programme of training to Competent Authorities and in Internal Auditing for Competent Authorities under BTSF

Assessment / Certification
Assessment is by means of a written examination and submission of a work related project on system auditing. On successful completion of the assessment a QQI certificate will be awarded.
