Animal welfare in focus at international conference

The 9th International Conference on the Welfare Assessment of Animals at Farm and Group Level (WAFL) takes place over the next two days in Florence, Italy.
This conference was organised by Dr. Laura Boyle, Dr. Keelin O’Driscoll and Dr. Amy Quinn of Teagasc and is being held in conjunction with the European Federation of Animal Science (EAAP).

Dr. Laura Boyle, Teagasc; Dr. Joel Berard, the incoming president of EAAP; and Dr. Andrea Rosati, Secretary General of EAAP, officially opened this highly regarded international conference on farm animal welfare science. This marks the first in-person WAFL since Wageningen in 2017, and follows the successful online WAFL conference in 2021.
The conference runs from today, Friday 30 to Saturday 31 of August. Following WAFL, many attendees will extend their stay in Florence to attend the 75th EAAP Annual Meeting taking place from September 1 to 5 which will feature numerous scientific sessions dedicated to all aspects of animal production.
