Autumn Beef Mart Events get underway this week
Teagasc will host a series of Beef Mart Events at marts across the country this autumn, providing practical advice to help farmers breed high-quality weanlings and maximise animal performance over the winter.
The events will feature live demonstrations of AI-sired weanlings, alongside advice from Teagasc advisors and specialists, AI breeding companies, nutritionists and veterinary practitioners.
Genetics
Representatives from Progressive Genetics, Dovea Genetics and Munster AI will discuss the key genetic traits to consider when breeding and purchasing cattle. Live cattle displays will demonstrate how genetics can influence weanling quality, replacement breeding and future performance.
Herd health
Veterinary practitioners will outline practical steps to prevent common autumn and winter health problems, with a particular focus on respiratory disease and parasite control. Regional Veterinary Laboratory staff will also attend selected events to discuss diagnostic and disease surveillance services available to farmers.
Nutrition
Nutrition specialists will provide advice on silage analysis, concentrate supplementation, energy and protein requirements, helping farmers develop feeding programmes to achieve targeted growth and performance over the winter.
These events are an opportunity to see top-quality AI-bred stock and get practical advice on genetics, nutrition and herd health to improve weanling quality and maximise winter performance.
