CalfCare events reconvene

After weather disruptions last week which resulted in the postponement of a number of CalfCare events, the series of on-farm events organised by Teagasc and AHI, and supported by Feed for Growth, have recommenced this week.
Teagasc and Animal Health Ireland (AHI) are running a series of CalfCare on farm events throughout January, supported by Feed for Growth. This series of CalfCare events is being run with the help and support of the co-ops and meat processors in each region, and aims to inform farmers of best practice husbandry and management practices to deliver best performance from calves in their care.
Rearing healthy calves has always been the focus of CalfCare events and 2025 will be no different. The events will be aimed at dairy farmers, as well as beef farmers who rear dairy beef calves.
Topics to be discussed include:
- Preventing pneumonia in calves;
- Understanding dairy and beef indices to produce quality calves;
- Ways to utilise pain relief during the calving season;
- Achieving optimal rumen development.
