Celebrate National Hedgerow Week 2026
National Hedgerow Week returns from 28 August to 6 September 2026, celebrating one of Ireland's most valuable natural assets.
Jointly coordinated by the Heritage Council and Teagasc, the week highlights the vital role hedgerows play in supporting biodiversity, farming, climate action and our cultural heritage through a programme of free events across the country.
Far more than field boundaries, hedgerows are among Ireland’s richest wildlife habitats. They provide food, shelter and nesting sites for birds, pollinators and small mammals while acting as important wildlife corridors that connect fragmented habitats. Healthy hedgerows also improve water quality by reducing nutrient and sediment runoff, store carbon, shelter livestock, and help farms become more resilient to climate change.
Throughout the week, Teagasc, the Heritage Council and partner organisations will share practical advice through webinars, news articles and social media posts, alongside on-farm demonstrations showcasing best practice in hedgerow management, rejuvenation and planting.
All events are free to attend and open to everyone. Whether you are interested in wildlife, farming, conservation or simply exploring your local landscape, National Hedgerow Week is an opportunity to discover why hedgerows are among Ireland’s hardest-working natural resources.
