Are you beginning the process of entering a registered farm partnership or are plans already in foot to do so in 2026?

Organised by Collaborative Farming Specialist at Teagasc, Ruth Fennell, the recent webinar: ‘A Step by Step Guide to Forming a Registered Farm Partnership’ offered participants an opportunity to find out all they need to know about entering such arrangements.

Joined by Sue Canny, Farm Partnerships Unit, in the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and Owen Power, Teagasc Schemes Support Specialist, the topics covered included: completing a partnership application, changing the registration details of a herd number, and the schemes supports available.

Registered Farm Partnership are a legal arrangement where two or more individuals operate as a single business, sharing profits, decision-making, and responsibilities.

This model is often used as the first step in succession planning, bringing the next generation into the farming business at an earlier stage and officially recognising their role in the farming operation.  They can be a powerful tool to blend experience with energy – combining an older farmer’s knowledge with a younger partner’s ambition.  Partnerships are also used between non-family members, bringing together two farming operations where resources can be pooled, efficiencies of scale can be maximised and labour and management tasks can be shared between the partners.
