Deadline approaching to check fertiliser purchases on National Fertiliser Database

Deadline approaching to check fertiliser purchases on National Fertiliser Database

Farmers are reminded that the deadline to check their fertiliser purchases on the National Fertiliser Database is fast approaching.

In lieu of the introduction of the EU Fertiliser Exceptional Aid Scheme, the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon TD, announced an extension to the deadline. Farmers must now ensure that the fertiliser sales data on the National Fertiliser Database in respect of their herd number for the 2025 Fertiliser year (15 September 2024 to 14 September 2025) is accurate and correct. The deadline for correct data to be recorded is now Friday, 30 October.

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine has encouraged farmers to login to MyAgFood.ie and verify that their sales and purchase data on the National Fertiliser Database is entirely accurate. Where a fertiliser purchase is missing, the farmer should contact the fertiliser merchant who supplied the fertiliser in the first instance, as the merchant is responsible for recording and updating the sale on the National Fertiliser Database.

Those farmers that have yet to register on the NFD and who wish to be eligible to receive a payment under the Scheme must also do so by the 30 October

When announcing the extension, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon T.D. said: “It is important that farmers check their records on the Fertiliser database to confirm they are correct.”

To qualify for the automatic payment under the Fertiliser Exceptional Aid Scheme, farmers must meet the following criteria:

  • Be registered on the National Fertiliser Database (NFD) by the new 30 October deadline.
  • Have submitted a 2026 Basic Income Support for Sustainability (BISS) application.
  • Have a minimum chemical fertiliser purchase of 2.5 tonnes, up to a maximum payable cap of 100 tonnes.
