Eoin Lyons in Kilkenny on his direct drill cropping system

Featuring on this week’s Tillage Edge podcast is Eoin Lyons, Kilkenny, who uses a direct drill system to establish crops every year.

Joining Michael Hennessy, Teagasc Head of Crops Knowledge Transfer, he speaks about the lessons learned over the years of using the direct drill establishment system and how his soils are chaning over time as a result.

Despite initial plans to established all crops in the autumn, he soon realised a good rotation, including the incorporation of spring crops, was critical to the success of the system. In addition, he often uses a disc in the spring to help ground to dry out and warm up to achieve a more timely planting.
