Equine breeding course for Sport Horse Breeders
A comprehensive course aimed at Sport Horse and pony breeders will be offered by Teagasc Equine Specialists this November.
Offering essential training for those new to breeding, as well as a valuable refresher for experienced breeders, the Teagasc Breeding and Reproduction Course will be offered in a blended learning format over a mixture of Zoom and in-person, on-farm workshop events.
Focused primarily on reproductive physiology and the care of the mare before, during and after mating, the course begins with three online sessions held via Zoom on Tuesdays, November 11, 18, and 25 at 2pm. These sessions will focus on the breeding programme overview, reproductive anatomy and physiology of the mare, reproduction husbandry and subfertility. As the online sessions will be provided using the ‘Zoom’ platform having access to a good internet connection is required to engage fully.
The on-farm workshop element takes place on Thursday, December 4 at 11am in Co. Kildare and offers the chance to review veterinary aspects of equine reproductive husbandry with a specialist reproduction vet followed by an insight into on-farm husbandry practices and infrastructure.
Costing €200, the course is designed for sport horse and pony breeders aged 18 and over who want to make informed decisions about starting or improving their breeding programmes or are seeking key information on the fundamentals of equine breeding and reproduction husbandry. In addition to expert knowledge, the course offers a valuable opportunity to network with fellow breeders.
Interested participants are encouraged to register to secure their place.
