Farm hazardous waste collection dates
Five farm hazardous waste collection days are scheduled to take place over the coming weeks, providing farmers with an opportunity to dispose of various wastes, thus ensuring compliance with legislation and reducing the possibility for biosecurity, environmental or human health risks.
Farmers can avail of this service to dispose of hazardous wastes such as pesticides, veterinary medicines, waste oil, paint and persistent organic pollutants. Full details of the products accepted and fees are available in table 2 below. Users of the service will receive documentation for their records as proof of disposal.
The locations of the collections include Louth, Galway, Kilkenny, Kildare and Cork.

Prior to the farm hazardous waste collection days, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine has reminded individuals of the following:
- Collections will take place between 9am – 5pm each day, and a herd number or equivalent Department registration will be required.
- Waste must not be dropped off prior to the collection.
- All waste must be appropriately segregated prior to attending the collection and will remain the responsibility of the individual until it has been officially accepted by the waste company.
- All waste must be identifiable and must be transported in a safe manner to the collection. Mixed or unidentifiable waste cannot be accepted.
- Needles, syringes and other sharps must be in a separate sealed container.
- Anonymous surveys will also be conducted on the day to gather some information on the collections.
This initiative continues the implementation of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) National Hazardous Waste Management Plan (NHWMP) 2021-2027. The 2026 collections build on the success of the 2025 collection days, which removed 207,000 kg of hazardous waste. Details and costs of wastes accepted are available in table 2.
