FarmElevate farm walk to focus on milk solids, winter fodder budgeting and autumn grass planning

A FarmElevate farm walk will take place on the farm of Harry and Joe Lalor in Knockamullin, Ballacolla, Co. Laois, on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 11am.

The Lalor family are part of the FarmElevate Lighthouse Farm network, a Tirlán and Teagasc initiative, developed to help farmers improve productivity, profitability and sustainability through peer-to-peer learning and knowledge transfer.

At the farm walk, visitors will hear how the Lalors are achieving 500kg of milk solids per cow, despite being new entrants to dairy farming. Discussions will also focus on winter fodder budgeting and autumn grass planning. Additional topics to be discussed include milk quality, new slurry storage requirements and practical steps to improving water quality.

The Lalors are one of eight dairy farm families selected as inaugural FarmElevate Lighthouse Farms, part of a new five-year programme developed by Tirlán and Teagasc.

Together, the FarmElevate Lighthouse farms showcase strengths in areas including grassland management, breeding, labour efficiency, nutrient management, renewable energy, technology adoption and business resilience. By opening their farms and sharing their experiences, these eight families will help fellow suppliers adopt proven practices and build stronger businesses.

The farm walk will take place on the farm of Harry and Joe Lalor, Knockamullin, Ballacolla, Co. Laois, Eircode: R32 CX29, on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 11am.
