Final chance to enter 2025 Teagasc/FBD Environmental Sustainability Awards

With a total prize fund of €30,000, farmers have just days left to apply for the 2025 Teagasc/FBD Environmental Sustainability Awards.

Closing to applications on Thursday, March 13, the awards, which are generously supported by FBD, aim to promote environmentally sustainable farming and highlight the progress that farmers are making to reduce their impact on the environment, while continuing to produce nutritious food in a profitable manner.

Additionally, the awards recognise the latest scientific developments and technologies that farmers are incorporating on their farms, which are key in reducing their gaseous emissions (greenhouse gases and ammonia), improving water quality, enhancing biodiversity, improving soil health and carbon, and diversifying the farm system.

Now in its second year, the completion is open to entries to all farmers from all the main enterprises.

At the launch of the 2025 Teagasc/FBD Environmental Sustainability Awards on the farm of John and Brendan Walsh, the overall winners of the award in 2025, Director of Teagasc, Professor Frank O Mara highlighted the importance of these awards:

Also speaking at the launch Michael Berkery, Chairman of FBD Trust, noted that last year’s awards were a fantastic success:

The prize money for these awards is generous, with €30,000 in prize money. The overall award winner will receive €10,000, while six ‘best of’ category awards are also available for farmers making outstanding contributions in the areas of: reducing gaseous emissions; improving water quality; enhancing biodiversity; improving soil health and carbon; farming organically; or diversifying the farm system to improve environmental sustainability.

The awards will be presented in late September, 2025. The overall sponsor of the awards is FBD Insurance. They are supported by ICBF, Bord Bia, and AgNav.
