Grass 10 Grazing Report with Oisin Gallen Co. Donegal

On this week’s Grass10 grazing management update, Joseph Dunphy gets a grazing update from Oisin Gallen, Co. Donegal, he also discusses beginning the 2nd rotation and has information on upcoming reseeding events countrywide.

Grazing conditions across Ireland are excellent this week, with grass growth 20% above the 5 and 10 year averages. Soil temperatures are between 10 –11°C, and 20 – 25 mm of rain is forecast nationwide, supporting predicted growth of 42 – 52 kg DM/ha.

Milking 90 cows, Oisín reports yields of 29L at 4.62% fat and 3.4% protein. His cows are fully on grass, and he plans to reseed 15% of his platform this month.

With current conditions ideal, the Grass 10 and Clover 150 teams are hosting reseeding events across the country in April and May.
