Grass10 grazing management update: achieving adequate grass supply
On this week’s Grass10 grazing management update, Niamh Doyle has tips to achieving adequate grass supply as growth rates are below normal for this time of year and she has an update from featured farmer, Killian Brennan, Co. Cavan.
Niamh discusses PastureBase data, Dry Matter % and Predicted grass growth, rainfall & soil temperatures for the week. She provides a summary of grass management, including data on average farm cover, pre-grazing yield, and feed proportions. Niamh advises farmers on building grass supply, adjusting farm rotation, and using supplements to maintain a 30-day grazing cycle, and also highlights upcoming deadlines for fertilizer application.

Sustainable Grassland Farmer of the Year Competition
The Sustainable Grassland Farmer of the Year competition aims to promote grassland excellence for all Irish livestock farmers.
The Grass10 campaign aims to increase the quantity of grass utilised on livestock farms (dairy, beef and sheep), with the objective of achieving 10 tons grass DM/ha/year utilised, with 10 grazings/paddock/year. The Grass10 campaign is supported by Teagasc, Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, AIB, FBD Insurance, Grassland Agro and the Farmers Journal.
