Have you declared your fertiliser closing stocks?

Have you declared your fertiliser closing stocks?

Farmers are being reminded that the deadline to declare fertiliser closing stocks is fast approaching.

The declaration must be submitted through the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine’s MyAgFood.ie portal, with October 15, 2026, the final date for submissions.

Where a farmer has fertiliser remaining, the closing stock declaration must include the type of fertiliser and the quantity of each product being held. Farms with no fertiliser in stock must also submit a nil declaration. Closing Stocks are classified as any fertiliser held on hand at 23.59 on September 14 each year.

It is a legal requirement for all professional fertiliser users, including farmers, to submit an annual Closing Stock declaration to the National Fertiliser Database (NFD), including a nil declaration where no fertiliser is held, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine said when the closing stock recording facility opened.

According to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, the system for declaring Closing Stocks on the National Fertiliser Database is quick and easy. A step-by-step guide is available on the Department’s National Fertiliser Database webpage.

Farmers, or their agents, can make the declaration by logging on to MyAgFood.ie. Farmers and other fertiliser users are also encouraged to check their fertiliser transaction records on MyAgFood.ie and ensure the information recorded for their farm is accurate and up to date.

Where fertiliser is supplied to a farmer through a contractor, the relevant fertiliser transaction should be allocated to the customer’s herd number. Contractors can do this directly through MyAgFood.ie using the ‘Farm to Farm Transfer’ facility.
