Let’s Talk Organic webinars return

The Let’s Talk Organic webinar series, featuring Teagasc Organic Specialists and special quests sharing their experiences of converting to organic farming, will return today, Tuesday, November 12 at 7.30pm.
As part of this evening’s webinar, John and Stephanie O’Hanlon, Angus Woods, and John and Ivan Kiersey will share their views on organic farming – all are recent converts to this way of farming.
Farming in Co. Longford, John and Stephanie O’Hanlon joined the Organic Farming Scheme in 2023 and are currently in year two of conversion. With grassland being the primary land use, they operate a suckler system, calving 30 cows and selling progeny at approximately 15-16 months.
Also joining the webinar is Angus Woods, the operator of a mixed farming system – consisting of a 65 suckler herd, a 500 mid-season lambing ewe flock and 50ha of tillage – in East Wicklow. Angus is currently in year one of conversion and will share his perspectives and experiences.
John and Ivan Kiersey, converts to organic farming on January 1, 2024, will also feature. Farming in Co. Waterford, the Kierseys milk 130 cows in a predominantly spring-calving system, where a high clover system is utilised to support a stocking rate of just under 170kg of organic N/ha.
