Meet the Teagasc Forestry Team at the National Ploughing
All roads lead to the National Ploughing Championships, on September 15 - 17, taking place this year at Screggan, Tullamore, Co. Offaly. We invite you to visit the Teagasc stand and get all your forestry queries answered. Tom Houlihan of the Teagasc Forestry Development Department tells us more.
Our forestry staff will be on hand to warmly welcome you to the Teagasc stand during the 2026 National Ploughing Championships. The theme for 2026 is ‘Science Supporting Farming’. We invite you to engage with our forestry advisors, who will be available to address all your forestry queries, be it on ongoing forest research, diverse forestry creation opportunities, available support schemes, forest management or sustainable timber harvesting. It is also a great opportunity to find out about our exciting programme of upcoming advisory and training events.
Forest creation options
With the new tree planting season again imminent, it is well worth investigating the attractive Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine’s (DAFM) Forestry Programme which includes strong financial incentives for the variety of forest option available (called Forest Types), each with their own silvicultural, environmental and practical objectives. There are attractive planting options suitable for all farms, regardless of enterprise or scale. These include native woodland, agroforestry (combining farming and trees in the same fields) and the more commercially-focused conifer and broadleaf options. There are also excellent options for planting smaller areas under the new Native Tree Area (NTA) Scheme. This is a great opportunity to avail of comprehensive, objective and science-based information.
Launch of our popular national photo competition
Teagasc staff will be present at the Teagasc marquee to discuss all things forestry. We will be launching our popular national forestry photo competition, in conjunction with DAFM. With entries welcome across three themes, the competition will provide great opportunities for both junior and senior enthusiasts to get snapping and be in with a chance to win prizes!
The Teagasc Stand is the place to be during the National Ploughing Championships for forestry and all things farming. We are centrally located at Block 3, Row 7, Stand No. 137. We look forward to meeting you over the three days!
