More than just beef at BEEF2024

Along with showcasing the latest research and advice to beef farmers, BEEF2024 offers so much more to attendees through its dedicated Advisory, Education and Opportunities Village.
Taking place tomorrow, June 26, at Teagasc, Grange, Co. Meath, Eircode: C15 PW93, attendees to the Teagasc National Beef Open Day can engage with staff and external stakeholders across a range of topics, providing an opportunity to have your questions answered – whether it relates to additional income opportunities, farm succession or education.
Following the inception of a refreshed Organic Farming Scheme (OFS) and over 5,000 farmers now engaged in this way of farming, Teagasc Organic Specialists and Advisors will be on hand to share key information on the financial supports available, housing requirements and the opportunities to grow protein crops on farm. Details will also be shared on the new organic research farm established at Teagasc Johnstown Castle as part of the GRO-FarmS project.
Are you considering forestry or have questions on the new afforestation schemes? Representatives from Teagasc’s Forestry Development Department will also be present to highlight the environment and economic sustainability of forestry, and the opportunities that exist for its successful integration with other farming systems.
Transferring the family farm is so much more than just a simple business transaction; there are a number of complex issues that need to be addressed. At BEEF2024, members of Teagasc’s Farm Management Specialist team will outline the five steps to successful farm succession.
In addition to the above, there will also be displays relating to the recently launched Better Farming for Water Campaign, the Teagasc Signpost Programme, and biodiversity.
For those interested in pursuing a future career in the agri sector, members of Teagasc’s education team will share details and answer questions on the Teagasc Further Education Programmes, the Teagasc apprenticeships and how Teagasc is incorporating technologies to improve the learning outcomes of students.
In addition to the advisory and education elements, renewable energy options for beef farmers will be explored. Visitors to BEEF2024 will hear of the work ongoing in Teagasc Grange on anaerobic digestion and the opportunities it may well present to beef farmers in the supply of feedstuffs, such as grass silage or slurries, and what role it can play in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
