More than just ‘technical’ at the National Beef Conference

Although the Teagasc National Beef Conference will focus on producing high-value weanlings, managing farm profitability and supporting generational renewal, Beef Specialist at Teagasc, Catherine Egan reminds farmers that the must-attend event offers so much more.

Commencing at 5pm, the Teagasc National Beef Conference takes place on Tuesday, November 18 in the Raheen Woods, Hotel, Athenry, Co. Galway. Featuring sessions on producing high value weanlings, and prices, profits and passing on the farm, the must-attend event will feature so much more from a social perspective.

Have you been keeping up to date with the happenings from the Teagasc Future Beef, DairyBeef 500 and Signpost Programmes? If so, there will be an opportunity to meet the teams driving these initiatives to hear the latest news, discuss their latest findings or take learnings from what they are seeing on the ground across the country.

Over recent years, many farmers have commenced organic farming, helped greatly by the supports available under the Organic Farm Scheme. Representatives from the Teagasc organic team will be present to answer any outstanding queries you may have or offer independent and trusted advice on the best system for your farm.

Additionally, water quality and the measures required to ensure its improvement have become in vogue over recent years. To help support farmers on this journey, regional representatives from the Agricultural Sustainability Support and Advisory Programme will be at hand to help you start the process of availing of this free and confidential service.

As International Men’s Day falls on November 19, the conference will also highlight farmer health and wellbeing. There are information stands and free health checks with Croí, plus foot care advice and mental health supports. Local health initiatives like Healthy Galway and Taking Stock will also be present, offering resources and support.

The night will also mark the sixth anniversary of the Teagasc Beef Edge podcast, which recently passed 300 episodes and 300,000 listens. The podcast is a great source of timely advice and updates on beef farming. Find it on the Teagasc website or your preferred podcast platform.
