Pig Open Day to feature real-time showcasing of herd management system

Taking place over two venues on May 22 in Teagasc Moorepark, and May 24 in Ballyhaise Agricultural College, the Teagasc Pig Open Day will feature the real-time showcasing of the herd management system being used by Teagasc researchers.
Farm Technician at the Teagasc Pigs Research Facility, Aisling Holmes explained that a stand will be present at both events to show the system’s capabilities, while staff from the department will also be on hand to answer any questions. Along with showcasing the system, information on the low emissions building and some new developments within the unit will be discussed.
The open days are also an ideal opportunity to see first-hand the results of the comprehensive research programme undertaken by Teagasc, and to meet researchers, advisors and postgraduate students. As part of the event, attendees will visit different stations covering the topics of: farrowing room management; nutrition; managing pig health; sustainability and an update on the Pig Development Department facilities.
In the below video, along with previewing the Teagasc Pigs Open Day, Aisling provides an update on the feed curves being used at the unit in Moorepark, explaining why they’ve been adjusted to support the performance of sows during lactation:
