Popular farming webinar series makes a return

The Teagasc Roscommon/Longford Advisory service is running a new series of its very popular farming webinars, B&T Advisor in Teagasc Longford, Seán Doorley previews these events.
This series will take place over five evenings on Zoom during December, January and February next, starting at 8pm each evening. There will be a mix of speakers from Teagasc, both local advisors and Teagasc Specialists, and a vet from the Regional Veterinary Laboratory in Athlone.
The topics covered are wide and varied and include: winter nutrition and health in beef cattle; farm schemes update; farm taxation; requirements when making changes to herd numbers; fertiliser planning for 2025; regulation of water quality; rearing dairy-beef calves; preparing for the calving season; and lamb mortality. This is a great opportunity for all farmers to hear the most up-to-date technical and scheme information on farming in the Roscommon/Longford region.
Webinar dates and topics:
- Monday, December 2 at 8pm – Aisling Claffey, Nutritionist at Teagasc, will discuss winter nutrition in beef cattle and Gerry Cregg, Teagasc Advisor, will discuss winter housing and animal health;
- Monday, December 9 at 8pm – Donal McCabe, Teagasc will provide a schemes update and Kevin Connolly, Teagasc will look at farm tax and recent budget changes;
- Monday, January 13 at 8pm – Brian Daly, Teagasc will discuss fertiliser planning and changes to herd numbers and Kieran Kenny, Teagasc will discuss regulations for water quality;
- Monday, January 20 at 8pm – Tommy Cox, DairyBeef 500 Programme Advisor, will share best practice for rearing the dairy-beef calf and John Donlon, Teagasc Grange will offer advice on preparing for spring calving on suckler farms;
- Monday, February 10 at 8pm – Lamb mortality will be discussed by James Kelly, Teagasc and Seamus Fagan will provide an update from the Regional Veterinary Lab.
The webinars will last for an hour and they are open to all farmers to join. A recording of the webinar will be available to watch on our Teagasc Roscommon/Longford YouTube channel afterwards.
