Sharing farm safety messages with our youngest farmers
Have a budding young farmer at home? Teagasc is excited to launch a fun and educational initiative aimed at keeping our youngest farmers safe as the summer holidays approach.
The Stay Safe with Jessy Art Competition and Webinar is now open for entries, giving children across Ireland the chance to learn about farm safety in a creative and engaging way.
Organised in collaboration with AgriKids, this initiative invites children from Junior Infants to Sixth Class to take part in a nationwide art competition, with fantastic prizes and a chance to become a farm safety champion.
Children are invited to submit a drawing or poster based on farm safety themes tailored to their age group:
- Junior and Senior Infants
- Create colourful pictures of farm safety signs that can warn people about things like tractors, animals or other farm dangers.
- First to Third Class
- Create a colourful picture showing how to stay safe around farm animals.
- Fourth to Sixth Class
- Illustrate a scene involving safe machinery use, including a catchy safety slogan.
Each category will have an overall winner and a runner-up, and entries must be submitted by Thursday, June 6.

What’s up for grabs?
The art competition’s winners will be announced at a fun, interactive live webinar all about farm safety on Wednesday, June 19. All families and schools are invited to attend.
Jessy the sheepdog, Teagasc’s beloved Farm Safety Mascot, will join the webinar to award six prizes in all – an overall and runner up prize for each category. Joining Jessy on the webinar will be Alma Jordan of AgriKids who’ll share expert tips on farm safety.
Prizes include Smyths Toys vouchers to the value of €100 for the winners, €25 for the runners up and a visit from Alma in AgriKids to the winning schools in 2026.
