Teagasc National Layer Conference 2026 to take place in Monaghan

The Teagasc National Layer Conference 2026 will take place on Wednesday, 20 May, at the Hillgrove Hotel, Old Armagh Road, Co. Monaghan, H18 RK15.

The event will run from 1pm to 5.30pm and will bring together producers, speakers and exhibitors for an afternoon focused on key issues in the layer sector.

The conference programme will include a presentation on Generational Renewal in the Egg Industry: A Practical Guide to Succession by Kevin Connolly of Teagasc. He will outline important areas for layer producers to consider in relation to succession planning.

Dominic Arthurs, a free-range egg producer from Northern Ireland, and Dana Simpson of St David’s Poultry Team will present Knowledge is Power – Proactive vs Reactive Flock Management. Dominic, who has 16,000 free range birds, will discuss how he has used on-farm data to drive his farm forward.

Dave Hodson of Rosehill Poultry will speak on Protected Performance – Vaccination in Lay. As laying birds live longer and move towards 90 weeks, his presentation will look at vaccination protocols, whether they last for the full laying cycle, the potential need for top-up vaccinations and practical tips for administering vaccines.

Aonghus Lane, a vet with St David’s Poultry Team, will present How to Manage Water on Farm. Following on from last year’s discussion on why water quality is important for laying hens, he will explain what water should be tested for, how to interpret water results reports and practical solutions to maintain water quality on farm.

Frank Clerkin of Poultry Vet Services will deliver Your Layer Flock – What & When to Take Action!. He will outline the health parameters and signs producers should look out for, what action they should take if they notice them, and when it is time to call a vet.

Speaking about the event, Rebecca Tierney, Teagasc’s Poultry Advisor, said: “It’s great to see demand for this event again this year in the layer sector. This year’s speakers will bring very practical topics and solutions to our producers. Again, the exhibitors bring a different angle to the event for networking, another learning experience and just catch-ups after a long winter with the housing order.”

A light lunch will be provided, and attendees are asked to register in advance.

Poultry specific exhibitors will also be present on the day, providing an opportunity for networking, catching up and seeing new technologies for the sector.
