Vacancy on Teagasc Authority


The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine invites applications from individuals who consider that they possess the skills, knowledge and experience to join the Teagasc Authority.

The Teagasc Authority, consisting of 11 members, has representatives from farm organisations, the food industry, universities, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and Teagasc staff.

Chaired by Mr Liam Herlihy, the Authority’s function is to ensure Teagasc’s mandate is delivered in the areas of research, training and advisory services, and education in both agriculture and food.

Candidates wishing to apply to this role must demonstrate in their application evidence of experience at an appropriately senior level in the agriculture and food sector, which should ideally also include evidence of: a demonstrable understanding of the agriculture and food industry; experience of research and development in the food and the food processing industry; and scientific and practical knowledge of relevance to the agricultural and food industry.

It is also desirable for candidates to have: an understanding of the climate challenges confronting the Irish agriculture and food sector; corporate governance and compliance experience; previous board membership; previous experience on an audit/risk committee; and financial experience.

Remuneration for this position is €11,970.00, with travel and subsistence payable at appropriate civil service rates. The successful appointee will be required to attend 11 authority meetings and participate in a committee, which meets four times throughout the year.
